Maverick Rover World Travels

Blog Post #92

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM

         Manneken Pis

This little bronze  (22 1/2 " tall) guy has been here since 1619, stolen several times and now represented by a copy,  while the original is in safe keeping in a local museum.

He wears over 200 different costumes throughout the year

As the legend goes, during a local battle this two year old Lord Geoffrey III of Leuven was placed in a basket and hung in an oak tree to protect the troops. He urinated on the Berthout troops who then lost the battle.

Saturdays are the day for weddings, even in Belgium,
we saw two couples on this Saturday.

1st this couple

this group of women waiting...
as one of the moms came out first...

and then, here is the Happy Couple from the 2nd wedding
with everyone cheering.
Love is Love

MOMADE bakery,
creations by a guy named Mo.

Why did I take this particular photo?
The story is:
Our grandkids call me MO
since my last name is Mōsser
and often times the "R" in Roger comes out as
"Wágōw"
🤣
Oh my heart, ❤️

The Atomium
100 meters tall  (328 ft)
created for the 1958 Brussels World Fair
meant to represent scientific innovation and world peace

We took the elevator to the top for the best view of Brussels

Green apple atop the art museum
(ring a bell for you?)
Unfortunately the museum was closed
the day in our schedule that we had allowed to visit.

You may not recognize this man,
Belgian artist René Magritte,
but you may recognize his
surreal art,
Son of the Man

His work (faces all obliterated)  is not meant to reveal the world as it is,
but how perception works,  how seeing can be a form of blindness.

Reproduction painted on the side of a building
at Metro stop, Rogier, near Belgium Centraal station

     Carmel w/mango or Chocolate w/caramel
Pretty to look at,
Yummy to taste,
a perfect send off from Brussels

🌈View from our window as we left Brugges,
on our way to Brussels🌈

Final travel poem from Belgium:

rainbows

in a world of

 places without lush color

rainbows appear

like statues in the night

 with the clarity

they deserve

in daylight

do they exist

in the dark

do they have

a pot of gold

do they

double up

somewhere

some place

 in time

the world over

sees rainbows

I bend the rainbow

wear it on my head

like a turban

let it be

my aura

while I bend

the rules of life

__________

especially

during June

Gay Pride month
