Blog Post #89

BRUGGE, BELGIUM

and other nearby localities

**********

1st Ostend, Belgium

(translates to Oyster)

just a 15 minute train ride from Brugge to the beach,

these trains depart several times each hour for only €8 1st Class, one way,

   (€8 Euros = $9.31 USD)

Our 1st class train from Brugge to Oestende

With the beach and English Channel behind us, we captured
"Rock Strangers"
a permanent installation piece made of metal that is meant to
represent rocks that have washed ashore.

Oestende Beach
a place for the Rich and Famous to sunbathe.
The town itself was destroyed during WWII when occupied by the Germans and bombed by the US and its allies.
Now rebuilt, it is lined with
high-rise condos, hotels,
high-end shops and restaurants.

Paul patisserie of Oestende
is located in 750 locations,
424 in France along with 47 other countries.
WE intend to find and experience EVERY single one.
and then go on a diet for life if we survive all 750.
Care to join us?

Passaje Jame Enso
is reminiscent of Parisian Gallerias

Saint Peter and Saint Paul Cathedral
survived the destruction of WWII

Poster of a little boy after consuming
a famous Belgian Chocolate Waffle

Gelato looking, but really
Australian Ice

Belgian Chocolate waffle
or Australian Ice,
your choice
OR maybe BOTH?

Now let me switch it up just a bit,
or A LOT.

While walking about in Brugge
we happened upon a local art gallery exhibit
hosted by a photographer and her subject
Joben Benoot
(Hōō-Ben)
A ceramist and a personality,
 In her own right.

Get Ready!!!

We spoke with Joben for quite some time
as we were the only two visitors for the moment.
She wants her story told, and told she did through this exhibit.
She has spoken world wide of her journey.

Stay Tuned!!

Joben was born Intersex,
an umbrella term for people born with
biological sex characteristics, such as chromosomes, hormones, genitalia or reproductive anatomy

Her parents decided to raise her as a boy, so she lived as a male for many years into her teens and then started showing signs of female characteristics. However, by this time her parents had chosen to have her ovaries removed,
in spite of that she physically and emotionally
 became more female.
At the same time, she chose to have a female partner and was able to have her sperm impregnate her partner.
They had two children, a boy and a girl but eventually separated.
She now identifies as a female and lives with her husband for the past 20 years.
She has two grandchildren, one of which was announced to her at the very moment we arrived at the exhibit,
she was so excited that she was in tears.

Roger, Joben & Ron

Of course, this flag represents all or most all of our LGBTQ++ group. What we were unclear of until meeting Joben was that the purple circle on yellow represents the intersex group.

Thanks for reading and understanding the importance of
"Love Is Love"

It is interesting that I wrote this poem in 2012,
not realizing the impact it might have
for this lovely lady and her journey

“Journey”

From beginning to end

From top to bottom

From side to side

And from concept to completion

A journey brings surprises

Not a thing

Not a place

Not a life

But a passage through time

A journey brings surprises

Feeling the feelings

Knowing the outcomes

Holding the hopes

While knowing nothing of its reasons

A journey brings surprises

From beginning to end

From top to bottom

From side to side

And from a past to a future

This journey will bring surprises
