July 4th Celebration with
The American Embassy
at this infamous airport
This airport is where the Candy Bombers
brought food and supplies to the West Berliners,
so they could survive during 1948-49.
They also dropped candy by small parachutes for the kids.
It was amazing and heart warming to see
the German / US camaraderie
celebrated at this event.
How did we get here?
Our friend, Hans, is employed by our American Embassy
and we were his invited guests
Hans also organized a private tour of the
American Embassy,
which is a securely designed and constructed building.
Of course, we had to leave our phones/cameras and IDs
at the front desk until we left the building.
Maximum security is necessary for the
integrity of the building and safety of the employees
The tour included photos of the original
bombed building and its surroundings during WWII.
It houses a stunning art collection that includes artists such as,
Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein and many others.
Brandenburg Gate
is adjacent to the Embassy
where the Soviets entered Berlin
Turkish Market
Along the Landwehr Canal in the Kreuzberg area of Berlin,
vendors twice weekly sell colorful clothing,
bolts of yard goods, classic antiques, fresh fruit,
vegetables, sumptuous tasty treats and more.

Brandenburg Gate
is adjacent to the Embassy

where the Soviets entered Berlin
and declared it their city.
The Berlin Wall which divided
East and West Berlin
ran directly in front of this gate.
Just outside the gate is where President Ronald Reagan
made his famous speech
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall"

Tipi Am Kanzleramt
Just couldn't pass this up, since this story originated in Berlin
through an adaptation of
Christopher Isherwood's
"Stories from Berlin"
This plaque is on the home where
Christopher Isherwood,
writer, actor & activist,
lived in the Schoneberg area of Berlin

TRAIN TRAVEL: When in Europe, purchase train tickets as soon as you know you will be traveling from city to city or country to country. Ticket prices rise as the date gets closer to your travel time.
