Ruin Bars
are all the rage
on the Pest side of The Danube
They are located in buildings that were run down and vacant.
Instead of redeveloping them into fancy
new spaces, they took the existing structures
and added funky elements such as flags, bathtubs, signs,
vintage furniture and of course, multiple unique bars
on their many levels above and below ground.
Each with up to 15 or so rooms covered in graffiti art.
This is what happens after
a few adult beverages

Szimpla Kert
may have been the first Ruin Bar
and is still the most popular

a few adult beverages
or it can have this sidenote,
with everyone viewing their cell phones

The Danube
is well known for its river cruises that pass through
Budapest and water taxis that take tourists
and locals up and down, as well as across the river
*
Black flags
line the entire
Margaret Bridge
Margit hid
along with memorial flowers and candles
Unfortunately, during our stay here
there was a tragic boat accident that involved
a river cruise ship and a smaller touring boat.
They collided and the smaller craft capsized
and sank to the bottom of The Danube,
killing 9 passengers and leaving over
20 passengers missing, likely trapped and drowned.
Please hold these, mostly Koreans, in your thoughts.
Days later there are still search crews on the river
*
This island is well known for its outdoor playgrounds,
soccer fields used by FIFA,
swimming pools, parks, fountains, running and bike trails
as well as a spa hotel, a concert amphitheatre,
a vista tower with amazing views of Buda & Pest
that was originally built in 1911 as a water tower
*
Of course,
Budapest has lots of quirky venues like this one
Edison Craft Beer
that seems to offer
Beer, Ink(tattoos), Light bulbs and
maybe even sew a suit or dress if you are up for the wait.

RELAX: Be sure to build in RELAXTION time during your travels. This may be defined differently by each person, albeit, Reading, Sunning, Thermal Spas or in our case, Journaling, Blogging, Photography and Poetry.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Every city has its own best means of getting around. Research before you arrive in your new city to learn the best means of transport, be it buses, Metro, trams, taxis, Ubers or your feet.
