Portland, City of 12 Bridges that span the

Willamette River, each with it's own character. 

 While they all cross the same river, 

there has been a divide for many years, west siders liked their side better and east siders liked their side better.  However, nowadays both sides of the river are known for their own identity. Each has  wonderful restaurants, businesses and social events abounding

Mt. Hood rises in the background 
and holds its "white cap" most of the year

Every time we come back to Portland we find it  
delightful, heartwarming and it makes us a bit verklempt
as we walk our old neighborhoods. 
Many of the old haunts are still there, along with
 a smattering of many new shops, restaurants 
and new brew pubs

*

Of course, when you visit family in 
the Northwest
this is what you do

Lilah, on the left (see how her bangs go to her left?)
Alice, on the right (see how here bangs go to her right?)
Thank goodness for this one difference 
or we would never be able to tell then apart

This is Grandma

and mom, Kimberly

Grandpas, Mo and Bapa

eating, no not a small apple, 

but a fresh fig

We humans weren't the only ones enjoying the apples 

while filling our buckets and baskets

The whole Apple Pickin' Crew

Morning Shade Farms

has it all, from blueberries, black berries, marion berries and  

strawberries to assorted varieties of apples, pears and figs

Even a little rain didn't stop us from picking the 

fall harvest and later in the day...

Apple cobbler with ice cream, and of course, 

cheddar cheese to honor the 

Wisconsinites among us.

If you haven't tried it, we highly recommend 

the cheddar cheese, with or without the ice cream

And what is a visit to Portland, without a visit to

The Wine Country

was our choice this time

Happy Hour on PAPILLON, a friend's boat

on the Columbia River at Hayden Island

(the "N" is covered by the entry gate)

Oh my heart, this is a "Live Aboard" boat

with all the right stuff.

Bar Soap:  We recommend, bar soap for travel. One less liquid to carry through TSA.

Layering of Travel Clothes: While boarding the plane, wear several layers to lighten your carry-on luggage. ☺️
