Same street
same block
opposite sides of the street
modern Parliament Building
vs
ancient brick & weathered door
New and the Old are around us everyday on our journey
*
Holyrood Palace
The Queen stays here when she comes to Edinburgh; just across the street from Parliament (shown above in a juxtaposition of architecture).
Holyrood House was founded as a Monastery in 1128 AD.

The Abbey attached to Holyrood Palace is now ruins after several rebuilds over the years
Garden parties are still held on the grounds during formal events hosted by the Queen, as well as state dinners inside the Palace
Our invitation to dinner at the palace must have gotten lost!
*
Many churches in Edinburg have been closed, sold and repurposed because declining membership could not sustain the buildings

Some are being converted to Bars, Hostels,
Escape Rooms and Rock Climbing
venues
*
Royal Yacht Britannia
was commissioned and used by Queen Elizabeth II from 1953 - 1997. Under scrutiny of the Brits, who perceived the yacht as too frivolous, the Queen chose to have the yacht decommissioned.
Previous royals have had yachts since 1911. The yachts were used to spread a message of unity around the world.
Yes folks, this is the state dining room aboard
The Royal Yacht Britannia
and it is still used today as a private event space

The formal sitting room is large enough to accommodate up to 200 guests
The Queens sleeping chamber is simple and is also used as a work space while she is aboard
*
On a more simple note,
there are walking paths throughout Edinburg
that were once railroad connections to the port
A bit of quiet amongst the hectic life in the city.
*
The Royal Botanic Gardens
offers a peaceful haven
for relaxation

and weddings where kilts are sported
by the grooms and the littles
*
Also in the Botanic Gardens
is an exhibition space that now displays
"lost words"
This entire exhibition is a work of passion by the artist and the poet to re-engage young and old to bring back not only the spoken word, but the importance of nature and how climate change affects nature.
How simple,
How beautiful
