PARIS, France

Paris Metro

Definitely a life saver since we are convinced that we probably spent 20% of our time underground in the massive metro system traveling in and around Paris. This is not a complaint because there was so much that we experienced.

Getting around Paris on the Metro is vey easy.

All you need to do is purchase a Metro card for 2€ (Euros) at most subway stations, and then you can load the card with as many rides as you like. The card can be reloaded at anytime. You simply tap in with your card at the entry for the ride of your choice. The cost is about 2€ per one way ride, as long as you keep going in the same direction you never pay again no matter how many transfers you take. Then your return will be another 2€, and so on.

(if you are going to Paris anytime soon, we have the cards with a few rides left on them. Just ask and they will be yours for FREE)

On the map below, the little red circle drawn on the map is where our AirBnB was located near Sacre Coeur Cathedral.

Gare de Lyon
Subway / Train station has a style all its own.

Inside the main restaurant, at the top of these stairs, there is an amazing restaurant.  Inside you will find many beautiful large, ornate paintings showing imagery from locations all around the world.
One of these paintings (shown below) was done by the grandfather of an acquaintance we met in Chevigny, France.
Can you tell that he was Swiss?

This Alps painting is ensconced within an ornate framework, which is part of the ceiling and wall detail that connects all of the paintings.

The Louvre
entry pyramid at sunset, oh my !!

Ron and Roger
in The Louvre courtyard.
This is the largest museum in the world
and formerly was a regal palace.

Springtime in Paris

Another springtime in France was in 1987
when Roger rode his bicycle, with a friend, on the
'trip of a lifetime', from Frankfurt to the Swiss Alps

We rode 1000 miles and each gained 15 pounds,
what do you think we ate and drank?
Escargot?  Bread? Wine? Beer? All of the above?

"I Love You"
a mural painted on a wall
in a park near our flat.
It appears that the artist has translated
"I Love You" into every possible language.
The actual English 'I Love You' is partially hidden behind the tree.

Quintessential French
This handsome French gentleman in his contemplative state seems to be waiting for his son, a friend, a lover or is he simply being French
 and taking in the moment?
You decide.

Thanks for following us on this journey around Europe.
it has truly been a wonderful adventure,
and we are excited to be heading home.

Until we travel again,
Cheers, Roger and Ron

We leave you with a quote of ours:

Go Wild, Be Wild, Live Wild
In the Wild,
Wherever that may be.

  1. I'm so sorry I didn't let you know earlier in your trip, that my elderly distant cousin, Beth (an expat who has lived in Paris for decades and is now a French citizen) lives right near where you stayed near the Sacre d' Coeur. I've stayed with her twice, and used the Metro to explore Paris, on my own. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy - - even as a solo woman! I'm impressed with Roger's bike trip, back in the day. You two are "travel road warriors!" You'd be fun to meet up with on one of your adventures. As you may or may not know, I spent 3 weeks in southern Italy last fall, retracing my father's routes and battlefields during WWII as a frontline Medical Officer and combat regimental surgeon. Next fall, I'm headed to North Africa (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco) to do the same, all in the name of "research" for the next edition of my book, "A DOCTOR'S WAR."
