Valencia, Spain & Palma de Mallorca

AN ANCIENT MASSIVE METAL ENTRY DOOR

Ron and Roger busy at work on their computers, each with their own task.  Ron is journaling, doing finances and editing photos. Roger is booking flights, trains, rooms and researching local things to do in Valencia and in our future destinations.

And then there is the travel guide book sitting lonely, while we do most of our research on the internet. We are thinking that we will probably refrain from purchasing heavy guide books for future destinations.  This first month has been very fulfilling, as we have seen a good share of Valencia, and it has also given us time to work on planning and adjusting and readjusting our busy calendar.

These backpacks, purchased from Index Urban in San Diego, are the bomb.
The full one has our grocery purchases for several days in it, while the little one in the photo is our second backpack shown empty and rolled up into its own carry bag.
Each bag, when empty, probably weighs just a few ounces and packs in a suitcase like a dream.
Going to the market to buy fresh frutas y verduras is now a pleasure.

Jimmy Glass Jazz Bar

Jazz at Jimmy's was an evening to remember. Pilar took us to her favorite pub for an evening of music, peanuts and Estrella Galica beer.  There were eight musicians on a stage that looked like it would only accommodate four. Piano, drums, base, trombone, trumpet and three saxophones.

The fun just never stops.

Life goes on, and on, and on. Thanks to espresso/cafe con leche
and dulce (sweets).

Happy Mother's Day
to all the mothers we know out there in the world.
Life is sweet.
Spain celebrates one week earlier than the USA.

Palma de Mallorca
Palma is a lovely resort town situated just a one hour flight from Valencia.  The Isle of Mallorca, in the Balearic Sea (a portion of the Mediterraneao Sea) is filled with history of the Moors, Romans and Spanish. Today, however, much of the history is still preserved and it is a playground for travelers predominantly from Europe, but also from the world over.
Cruise ships arrive daily and fill the streets with every language under the sun.

Antoni Gaudi had his influence here in the Catedral de Mallorca with his "crown of thorns" over the pulpit area

  1. The cathedral and the “crown” are exquisite. I’ve only known about his work in Barcelona. We had taken a Gaudi tour there with an architectural professor from the university.

  2. It looks like you have been having great weather all along.
Had my hair cut today and Rick says hi. Love to see all these
    places you are discovering!

  3. Palma de Mallorca is so awesome, I'm looking forward to returning there. Traveling light is good, but I always think Eyewitness Guides are the best accessory.
