A picture is worth a thousand words
After 9/11/2001
Now two fountains, below street level, replace the two towers.
Around the two fountains are all the names of the 2996 men, women and children who died in these two buildings, the Pentagon, on the four planes that crashed and the people who died while assisting in the rescue effort on that infamous day in our history
The impact of viewing this memorial etches the devastation of this event more deeply into our hearts and minds

The New World Trade Center Building One
The artist's intent in this installation piece is to represent the many colors of the sky on that day (all blue in varying degrees) These squares are water color on paper, while the lettering
"No Day Shall Erase You from the Memory of Time"
(words of the Roman poet Virgil)
are made from sections of recovered 911 steel.

NYC
the city of theatre
We experienced two amazing plays on this visit
"The Bands Visit"
A story of consequence and adaptability where a
band from Egypt arrives in the wrong city for their concert.
As the story unfolds, the band makes the best of the situation.
In one night five band members meet locals in a situation where each individual experiences, not only their own insecurities, missed opportunities, losses, passions, heart aches, but also those of the people they meet. Even the language barrier has its positive attributes when eyes meet, hands touch, angry voices ensue, arms caress and music mystifies

"Dear Evan Hansen"
awakens your senses when a high school boy breaks his arm. He wears a real cast in the production which is removed during intermission in every performance.
The story has its base much deeper than a broken bone, it takes you into Evan's family's insecurities, his lack of friendships, his being bullied, his strengths and his talents.
Evan is in therapy to help him have a better self image. As a teenager, he and his classmates all have a lot of growing up to do. It seems that the parents, the teachers and the therapist also have a good bit of a challenge on their hands.
If you have ever signed someone's cast, you know that not just everyone signs a cast. Usually it's the closest friends and family who sign a cast. When you read about or see this play (which by the way we highly recommend) you will see who does and who does not sign the cast. There in lies the secret.

Of course, no stop in NYC is complete without a walk along the Hudson River and on the Highline, a stroll through SOHO (SOuth of HOuston), a subway ride with a stop at Grand Central Station, and if you are fortunate enough to have friends who live there, as we do, you have the opportunity to meet up for dinner at one of their favorite restaurants (Tamarind Indian cuisine) in Tribeca (Trianlgle Below Canal Street).
New Yorkers all know this stuff, but for others it's good information when visiting NYC

STONEWALL INN
is not your ordinary inn
June 28, 1969
(my birthday, I was 22)
was the beginning of a gigantic change
for the LGBTQ community
when they protested arrest by the police on this site,
simply for being gay and frequenting a Gay Bar.
Let it be known that this is the ONLY LGBTQ National Monument in the entire USA. There are currently other monuments recognizing the community, but none are dedicated as National Monuments.
There are no national memorials that recognized the
AIDS Crisis
I, for one, intend to help change this awareness

“He who is outside his door
has the hardest part of
his journey behind him”
has the hardest part of
his journey behind him”
Dutch Proverb
This New York artist's piece will look like
a neon sign when it is completed.
It seems to speak to OUR Journey,
