Street Paella, San Juan Celebration

Street Paella

Eight foot in diameter paella created by this chef to raise funds for next year's Fallas event. Massive paper statues will be created during many months for the celebration and then burned in late March.

On the other end of the street, kids are enjoying a hot summer day while everyone drinks beer waiting for the paella to finish cooking.

St. San Juan Celebration
one week later

Mid-night, swim 7 waves for 7 wishes

On the summer solstice, celebration of St. San Juan, it is believed that if you make 7 wishes in 7 waves your wishes will come true.

So masses of Valencianos venture to the Mediterranean Sea.  We were there to experience this as family members, young and old showed up. Many built fire pits in the sand and cooked food, while others just enjoyed time together.

Street Artists

Framed live street artist who is perfectly motionless, but throws a kiss when you offer coins

Copper/bronze statue comes alive when you hand him coins
(now you know it is the beginning of tourist season)

A little something to contemplate for hot summer days

That is no tourist, that is a local on his 71st Birthday at Rincon Griego Restaurant in Valencia, Spain.  Ron and I had a wonderful birthday dinner here with our friend Pilar.

Bring on 72, and the rest of the world. I am ready and waiting.

The Benlliure artist family has been in Spain since the 19th Century creating world class art with gallery openings in Paris, Berlin, Spain and New York.

This studio makes we want to paint again or at least experience more of the wide world of painters.

Seeing, smelling, almost touching and feeling the essence of these artists is breathtaking. Jose Benlliure and his son, Peppino, worked together for years until Peppino succumbed to a lung disease.

Doorways and Doors

There is something about European Doors that just draws me in, well almost in, with this poem. A future poem just might take us beyond the door, stay tuned....

  1. Lovely poem!
Onwards in the world discovery. Can't wait to learn things once you have landed in your new location.

    1. These doors just make me crazy, SO MANY DOORS, SO LITTLE TIME. Now on to the doors of London.
