l'Eglésia de Dalt, rebuilt in the 1900 from ruins of an older church of the 1600s. After the 1700s pirates no longer invaded, and thus Altea repopulated.
Just a few steps down from this magnificent church is Restaurant Obatalá Iré

Restaurant Obatalá Iré is owned and operated by a young couple, Cuban chef owner and his local Altean wife, who live above the restaurant. They met over salsa; no, not food salsa, it was Salsa dancing. Now, during the winter months when the tourists are gone, they teach Salsa in the restaurant.
The half moon opening in the sliding door is a view into the petite kitchen. The chef also washes the dishes in the kitchen and rings a bell for his wife to arrive and dry the dishes. Their refrigerator is located through a different small door and down a ladder that they must back down to access fresh chicken, lettuce, dressing and home made deserts. A most engaging and creative couple, another of our random encounters.
This local street artist sold us our new bracelets. If you look closely, you will see Ron and the artist each wearing the bracelet he sold us.
FOOD for thought, fresh figs in the Mercat Central and a poster for a restaurant showing their penchant for pasta. This could become the style of the day.

All in all, Altea is a wonder. There is the salty sea, the impending hills directly behind the city, the year round sunny weather of Costa Blanca and a peace that lulls as you watch sailboats and power boats float across the horizon. A lot of folks here are visiting their second homes or are on vacation from the cooler weather of Northern Europe.
And now, a tribute to a world traveler who has inspired so many of us to encounter distant lands and unknown treasures of this earth.
RIP, Anthony Bourdain
