Sitges, Barcelona, Puigmolto. Spain
Currently, I am working on this new Blog format for ease of reading. Thanks for bearing with me up to this point, as I am still in the learning stages of Blog writing.
Puigmolto, SP - a small village nestled in the middle of vineyards, olive groves and the quiet of the countryside while being only a stones throw from the Mediterranean Sea. We visited friends here who formerly lived in San Diego.

Thriving vineyards and poppies are a sure sign of Spring. |
This basket of vegetables from their garden, later became our lunch by adding rice and mussels.

Sitges is a larger neighboring town, directly on the sea that is well known for a resort flavor of thriving restaurants, bars, shopping and sandy beaches. Located just a 45 minute train ride from Barcelona, Sitges is a popular weekend destination for tourists and those fortunate enough to own a second home. We spent several days lounging on the beach, walking around town and enjoying new tasty foods

Late afternoon is the time for walks along the malecon
and a time for meeting up with friends for a glass of wine or a local beer. |

Spending time in these two towns was just a precursor to our visit to Barcelona on Sant Jordi Day, a national holiday where almost everyone is walking about with a red rose and buying books. The lines were amazingly long while folks waited in line for the the authors to sign their book purchases.

The Legend of Sant Jordi. The country decides that it must sacrifice a virgin to scare away the vicious dragon who will destroy them. A lottery is drawn and the King's daughter is the unlucky virgin chosen; but, alas, a charming prince kills the dragon and saves her. Her happy tears mixed with dragon blood create a rose. Thus, to this day, the rose is the symbol of Sant Jordi.

Crowds along the sidewalks in Barcelona and booksellers everywhere. |

In the Gotic Area, a snappy display of men's shirts. |

And now back to Puigmolto for some country flair and another Spanish door to contemplate. |
